A process whereby someone not born into, or part of a given family, is formally made a legal family member, and conferred with every power, right and responsibility, that come with such position, is called adoption. “For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26).
Adoption is by faith. It’s important to believe Christ died on the cross to take away our sins, and He resurrected. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:8). Through Christ, we are exempted from perdition, and worthy of eternal life in him. Adoption is of God’s grace.
“Therefore, it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only, which is of the law, but to that also, which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all” (Romans 4: 16-17). The status of sonship has been given to believers in the kingdom of heaven. God can be called our father and heaven is our inheritance. By spiritual birth, we become a part of God’s family, we are adopted by God, and we assume the position of his first son. When we are adopted, there is attraction of God’s love towards us.
We become intimate with the father through the grace of regeneration. Holy Spirit begins to lead and guide us. As an adopted believer it is mandatory to live a holy life. We have a responsibility to please the father. A sinner cannot enjoy sonship in Christ. We must subject ourselves under the power and control of the Holy Spirit. The reward of sin is death. The desires of the flesh must be denied and our sinful nature must be forsaken. Have a blessed week.
